Hi,

Great idea so keen to add some of my documents for the future good!

First point, the screens appear to have been set up for a wide monitor - some of us still use the "old" aspect ratio screens. Any chance that the aspect ration can be user selectable, please?

Second point, I have a couple of documents related to maritime sites that I submitted as part of the Nautical Archaeology Society certification scheme. As such they don't have official numbers etc. which seem to be required fields for the documentation registration process. How do I store these items without having such data. (One document is a survey of the Brighton Marina Protected wrecksite, the other about an inter-tidal wreck on the River Hamble known as the Norseman). Maybe you could add a section for Maritime or wreck sites?

Many thanks for such a cool idea and central repository - good luck with the project! :-)

Best regards

Keith -

Thanks for your positive comments about Open Archive.

I'll look into the first point, can you tell what screen resolution you use so I can include it in my tests?

For the second point we could add two further types: Wreck Archaeology and Underwater Archaeology - how does that sound?

thanks,

Steve

Just to chip in here.

only the fields in RED are compulsory - the official numbers can even be added later - you can return to a document and edit it, revise it or even delete it! (but please don't as I like reading them)

Thanks so much for the comments, and I look forward to seeing your reports online. ps... if you have any troubles (as we are still developing) feel free to get in touch.

and I wish I had a title like full time satellite designer !

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I use a screen resolution of 1152 x 864 pixels with 32 bit colour quality - hope this helps?

Also the new catagories sound great, I'll tout them to the members of the NAS and try and get more of their reports sent your way.

best regards

Hi,

The details section asks for my home address, I'm unclear whether or not everyone gets to see this? It would be grand for organisations to have these details published but not so good for individuals.

Also the site code is a red, i.e. compulsory, box and my site doesn't have one. It was a survey carried out by students of the NAS on a protected wreck site (with the necessary licence etc). The report won a Duke of Edinburgh award (we all got to go to the Palace). Maybe you can suggest how I can get past this stage, please?

regards

Good Point - I would suggest that this becomes non compulsory for individuals

Ah, I see the problem.. normally a site is given a Site Code at teh time of work... so that finds, drawings, photographs etc all have a unique site reference number.

ie Newhailes Stables in 2009 becomes NS09 - may I suggest you create one for this site based on name and year.

this is all very useful, and we are grateful for the time (and Patience!)

Keith -

We've made a couple of changes regarding the screen width, can you see if that's any better for you.

I've also added the 2 new types for you.

Regarding the upload form: for address, just enter a dash in the textbox and it will pass the validation; for the site code, can you follow David's suggestion?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for all the efforts on your part. I have finally managed to get the first document uploaded. I have made up a site code and simply added "please use e-mail to contact me" in the address box.

Some of the text boxes now overhang the page edge (since the width was altered) but this is not a show stopper! :-)

One thing that did take a bit of time was the OS map coordinates to geo-locate the project (isn't this more usually known as Land Ranger coordinates since OS grid coordinates are simply x,y cordinates?). The characters are case sensitive (I was place them in the boxes lower case and the program said that the place couldn't be found) as soon as I started using upper case the problem disappeared.

Anyway, everything is OK now and when I get a few minutes I put the Norseman Wreck information up.

Many thanks for developing such a useful facility for everyone.

Best regards

Keith

That's great that you've done that, many thanks.

Good catch regarding the case sensitivity, I'll add that and the textbox width to my list
